2008: A Year In Review

Mindset: What A Year!

On Rotation: "Pop Champagne" - Ron Brownz

Keeping on with the yearly tradition (even though Xanga is dead)... the following is a recap of my year in pictures. It's been an interesting year to say the least. I've noticed that after a certain age and certain life stages, time passes by slower and slower. Eh... it might be a good thing... Anyway, onward and upward....

January

After an internship and almost 3 years at PwC, I started a new job at Morgan Stanley in the Corporate Tax and Legal Compliance Department. It was probably the most difficult start I've had at a new job. The people were much different and much older than I was used to. The organization skills were poor. The communication skills were lacking. The systems were outdated and slow. I never thought I could complain so much about a job. PwC seemed a world away and years ahead of this department. I would eventually learn to cope with all my issues with this new job, but become unhappy and subject to the worst downturn in economic history. Nevertheless, I still rang in the new job with a kickass party at Anchor Bar.

February
Probably the greatest accomplishment of my life started in this month. After months of research and search, I found what I would eventually call my home. On Monday, February 11, 2008 I place an offer on a property in Clifton, NJ and was accepted!

Other than that, I was just on the daily grind and partying on the weekends. Most notable were Glenn's new job party and Shirlyn's birthday!

March
Without fail... my birthday party took to new levels of craziness. A celebration in 2 cities is more than enough for a huge 25th birthday. First, a party in Philly to celebrate with Kyle for his birthday. And as style would have it, we rented out a hotel suite in both cities, and partied at 2 of the most chill club/lounges.

It was the bartender's birthday too!

In between all that... without fail again, the old men of FIND strike again by "Unmask"ing GILAS at the FIND, Inc. Spring Conference.

April
In hopes of getting back into the basketball scene, I joined the Urban Professional League in NYC. Little did I know that I'd spend 3 weeks on disability with a herniated disc in my lower back and yet again have to suffer through physical therapy.

The greatest part about April was the 30th. Closing Day! I closed on my first house in my life... what an accomplishment!  (The BEFORE pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/jessereynesgo/2008May4575GroveStreetBefore#)

May
All things house related:
- paint all rooms
- buy new furniture / electronics
- set up new accounts / memberships / services
- get all bills in order

... and the list just goes on and on.

Probably the biggest purchase of this month was... A NEW CAR!

2009 Toyota Camry LE in Super White

June
Unfortunately I had to cancel my trip to Alaska due to my recent home purchase. But well worth it I think. This month was occupied by graduation parties and other random parties. My youngest cousin Carol graduated from high school this month... and headed off to Rutgers University.

July
The month of my only vacation of the year. This brought me to Ocean City, MD.

This month, I also had an interview with Google. Unfortunately they were looking for someone with a couple more years experience... otherwise, I would have moved my ass out to Mountain View, CA.

August
Housewarming time! Not only that, but my cousin and family flew up from Houston to visit. My neice also celebrated her 15th birthday, for which I treated her to the Broadway show Wicked.

Comparisons

Mindset: Impatient

On Rotation: "Surviving the Times" - Nas

Finding a condo is like finding the right girl.... it takes forever, but you gotta be patient... you gotta be picky... and you gotta spend a lot when you find it / her... and continue to pay the bills for the rest of your life...

Google Runs the World....

Mindset: ... and MY Life!

On Rotation: "Just Fine" - Mary J. Blige

I can't deal without personal email or GChat or AIM at work!!! They even got my phone tapped and my work email monitored! My new job is holding me down!!!

What do I do?

And don't suggest Meebo or proxy servers or anything like that... they got it all covered..... even the IT guys don't have a way around it.......

8th Avenue, New York, NY

Mindset: Puzzles

On Rotation: "Sensual Seduction" - Snoop Dogg

I didn't think peep shows existed anymore! But they do in fact exist. My walk to work everyday is living proof. As I walk up 8th Avenue in Manhattan, they line the blocks between 42nd Street and 50th Street... not to mention the sex shops and lingerie shops. I thought Giuliani abolished these things when he became mayor. I guess not. What's even funnier is seeing people still actually go into these places. I once saw (who I thought was) a bum get change from someone and walk into one of these places. Hilarious!

Anyway.... it was just a funny site worth talking about...
